Xielo brings together Mexican pastries, crepes and raspados in an open shop where you can watch desserts being prepared. Its shaved ice draws inspiration from the raspados of Guadalajara’s Parque Morelos, while the baked goods come from family recipes passed down through generations. You can stop for something cool and fruity or make a warm crepe the center of your visit.
The family behind Xielo traces its interest in Mexican cooking through three generations. The bakery draws on recipes dating back close to a century, while the dessert counter pairs those traditions with crepes and shaved ice. That mix gives the shop a different menu from a coffeehouse pastry case: baked treats, made-to-order desserts and cacao-based drinks all have a place.
The hot chocolate comes in two styles: traditional Mexican and a thicker Spanish version, both made with cacao from Oaxaca. Xielo sits inside the historic Woolworth Building at A and 4th streets. The parking structure across the street makes it convenient to leave the car and spend some time downtown before or after dessert.
Customers love the café de olla and crêpes, with friendly staff happy to help them choose a treat.
